Our company’s history, spanning over 130 years, is not merely a matter of nostalgia – we see it as a training ground. Over the decades, CHENMITZER ZAHNRADFABRIK has had to constantly reinvent itself and thrive in challenging circumstances. Today, we draw strength from this resilience!

1890

Company foundation under the name “Bernhard Gläss Drehmaschinen” in Chemnitz. The product range comprised various models of lathes, in which helical-cut interchangeable gears were used for the first time.

1945

Expropriation, nationalization and renaming in "Drehmaschinenwerk Chemnitz"

1955

Renamed to VEB Fahrzeuggetriebewerke “Wilhelm Friedel” Karl-Marx-Stadt and incorporated into the IFA Commercial Vehicles Combine

1989

Placed under the Treuhand, renamed “CHEMNITZER ZAHNRADFABRIK”

1992

Privatization and reorientation of the business model towards the development and manufacture of complex gearboxes and gear components

1993

Construction of new premises and relocation within Chemnitz

2000

Engineering becomes a key differentiator for bespoke gearboxes tailored to a wide range of industries

2017

Handover to the next generation. The values of a family business are preserved

2021

Extension and expansion of the production area
